The No.1 Battery Storage Solution
Tesla Powerwall empowers homeowners and commercial property owners to store clean solar energy for use round-the-clock, and incorporates all the smart technology you’d expect from Tesla.
Now installed with Backup Gateway it provides protection from power cuts (an increasing risk due to the strain on the UK’s aging energy infrastructure). A home solar PV system without the addition of a Powerwall will shut down during a power cut for the safety of the grid. However, teamed with Powerwall battery storage system solar panels continue to produce energy during an outage.
This feature makes it an attractive option for homeowners and businesses needing to keep freezers frozen, lights on, machinery operating, and tills working during grid outages. Tesla Powerwall owners can also take advantage of the cheapest energy rates in the UK, saving up to 75% on utility bills by topping up energy during off-peak tariffs.
Tesla Powerwall Battery Storage Benefits

Protection for power cuts
Sell electricity back to the grid at peak prices, with a suitable energy tariff
Peace of mind with a 10-year guarantee
Grid purchasing during cheaper off-peak times
Tesla Powerwall: The Tech
Each Tesla Powerwall has a 13.5kWh energy storage capacity which is 100% available for discharge depending on the reserve level you set, sufficient to power most homes during the evening using electricity generated by solar panels during the day. Multiple batteries may be installed together for homes with greater energy needs.

How does Tesla Powerwall Battery Storage work with your Solar Panels?
Tesla Powerwall Battery Storage can be installed alongside any new or existing Solar PV installation or on its own to take advantage of Load Shifting. Load Shifting is simply buying energy during a cheaper off-peak time and using it during the peak time to reduce the cost of the energy. That is to say, you moved the cost of the load to a different time period rather than moving the load timing itself. This is also called time of use grid purchasing.
A typical installation with solar includes solar panels and an inverter for converting the DC energy generated by the panels into AC.
Tesla Powerwall battery storage system and Tesla Gateway with current sensors which controls the battery and tells it when to charge and discharge. In backup applications, a secondary circuit may be required that powers key appliances particularly for properties with three phase power. Single phase homes can be fully backed up with a maximum continuous power draw of 5kW per Powerwall installed. The components you require will depend on how you use your home battery and your grid energy supply.
Tesla Powerwall Installation FAQs
How does the Tesla Powerwall work with a solar panel system?
During the day your Solar PV system supplies to any load being demanded in the property and the excess charges your battery. At night your home draws electricity from your battery, powering your home with clean, sustainable energy 24/7. Tesla Powerwall 2 can also charge from the grid during cheaper off peak times, it comprises of 13.5kWh of usable storage in a lithium-ion battery pack, which can power an average 2-bed home for a whole day.
How does the Tesla Powerwall compare on value for money?
With up to 13.5kWh of storage and capable of delivering 5kW of power continuously and up to 7kW for 10 second periods, the Tesla Powerwall is extremely good value as the price per kWh of storage is by far the lowest on the market. Smart technology enables you to take advantage of time-of-use and export tariffs.
How does the Tesla Powerwall protect from power cuts?
With the ever-increasing load on the UK’s aging power grid, it is only a matter of time before we start to see regular power outages or planned power cuts in certain regions of the country.
Backup Gateway will detect a power outage and trigger your Tesla Powerwall 2 to take over. It will also ensure your Solar PV system continues to produce and utilise your green energy (without it, Solar PV stops working during a power cut).
How much could I save on my utility bills with Tesla Powerwall?
Take advantage of the cheapest energy rates in the UK, saving up to 75% on your utility bills by selling power back to the grid during peak rates with the appropriate energy tariff. Intelligent forecasting software learns when energy is most needed and helps maximise your financial benefits.
