Solar and Battery Installation in East Sussex
When the homeowner began looking into solar panels and battery storage, there was already a clear reason for making the investment.
The goal here was to maximise solar generation for a high energy usage home.
The property had an annual electricity consumption of around 6,800 kWh, with planned underfloor heating within a new 5 m x 5 m roof extension expected to increase this by a further 3,500 kWh per year.
The homeowner had initially started the project with another installation company but decided to withdraw following difficulties with communication.
Finding an installer who could combine technical expertise with a professional and well managed customer experience was therefore particularly important.

Designing around the property
The property presented a number of challenges. The available roof space is spread across three separate pitches, while the roof itself is constructed from concrete tiles.
These require additional care during installation, with individual tiles needing to be notched where necessary to allow the mounting brackets to sit correctly and flush with the roof.
Following the sale, TLGEC’s Technical Design Team mapped the property and developed a bespoke panel layout to make effective use of the available roof space. A DNO application was also submitted on the customer’s behalf as part of the project.
Additional installation time was also allocated to account for the more involved concrete tile work. Cable routing was planned as part of the overall design to ensure the cables from the three arrays were kept as neat and discreet as possible as they travelled down to the battery system.

The completed system
The finished installation comprises:
- 16 × SunPower P7 500W solar panels
- 8 kWp solar generation capacity
- Tesla Powerwall 3
- Tesla Gateway
- Bird protection
- Three separate solar arrays across three roof pitches
The Powerwall 3 provides battery storage, allowing surplus solar generation to be stored for later use and helping the homeowner make greater use of the electricity generated by the system.
Built for current and future energy demand
With electricity consumption expected to reach approximately 10,300 kWh per year once the new underfloor heating is in use, maximising renewable generation was an important consideration throughout the project.
The resulting 8 kW solar system makes effective use of the property’s available roof space. Meanwhile, the Powerwall 3 provides storage for surplus solar generation.
The final system provides the homeowner with a substantial source of renewable electricity and battery storage, designed around both current consumption and anticipated future energy needs.
