TLGEC Renewable Energy: Solar PV, Battery Storage & EV Charging in Kent, Sussex, Surrey, London & Surrounding Areas

How can I reduce my carbon footprint?

With stark warnings from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change this week it’s clear the consequences of a rise in global temperatures above 1.5C will affect us all.

The study urges rapid and fundamental changes “in all aspects of society” to limit climate warming.

There is some good news though, there is still time to avert the worst predictions — if action is taken quickly.

One key point is that we can all affect change by reducing our own carbon footprint.

Here are five ways to reduce yours:

  1. Reduce the amount of meat and dairy produce in your diet. Research shows that without meat and dairy consumption, farmland use could be reduced by more than 75% – an area equivalent to the US, China, European Union and Australia combined – and still feed the world.
  2. Travel wisely. Take the train and car share whenever possible and consider an electric vehicle next time you change your car.
  3. Set your washing machine to cold. No really. There’s now evidence that cold water is just as — if not more — effective at cleaning clothes. Cold water is also even better than hot for removing stains. Try it!
  4. Invest in solar energy. It speaks for itself, by harnessing and storing the sun’s energy using Solar PV and Battery Storage you will reduce your bills and your carbon footprint.
  5. Insulate your home. You can find help and advice at the Energy Saving Trust.
